Note that the python.org releases only support versions of Windows that are supported by Microsoft (at the time of the release), so no recent release from python.org can be used on WIndows XP. By default, the Add Python to PATH option is unchecked, make sure it is checked then click on Install Now. If the setup is successful, you should see a window as below:
